Can you watch launches from Esrange, Sweden?
Sweden · Public viewing: None or restricted · No public viewing spots. Last verified 2026-10-02.
Esrange sits in Swedish Lapland near Kiruna and flies research rockets, balloons and, soon, orbital test vehicles. It is a restricted range rather than a viewing destination. If you are in the Kiruna area you can visit the free visitor centre outside launch windows, and from town you may see a rocket in the sky, but there is no official place to watch the launch itself.
Public viewing at Esrange, Sweden
Public viewing: None or restricted No public viewing area; the site is restricted or closed to spectators. Watch the official stream.
Esrange is a working range in a civil protection area with no spectator viewing area. The free visitor centre is not a launch viewing venue, and people must be outside the danger zones during launches.
- SSC's safety page says it is prohibited by law to be in Zone A during rocket launches, and the Visitor Center next to the gate must be vacated when launch restrictions are active.
- From Kiruna or Jukkasjarvi SSC says you do not need to do anything during a launch; look east if you want to see the rocket. That is a view from far away, not a designated viewing area.
- Esrange is a civil protection area, so photographing the site is prohibited, and drones are banned.
- The Visitor Center is free and unstaffed and open daily outside launch restrictions. Guided access to pads or control rooms is arranged with SSC in advance and is not guaranteed.
Official and primary sources for this label
If you cannot be there: SSC live-streams some launches on its YouTube channel (SSC Space). Check the launch page for a webcast link and SSC's safety page for the campaign schedule.
Stay out of restricted zones. Launch sites, safety zones and military areas are closed on purpose; entering them, or photographing them where that is banned, can bring fines, detention or worse under local law. Only use viewing places that the site operator, the local authority or an accredited tour operator names, and follow staff and police instructions.

Road closures, official information and advisories
T-ZERO does not collect or republish closure data. Use the official or local sources below, and check them again on launch day.
SSC publishes the active campaigns, zone maps and times on the page above, and final announcements on Swedish Radio Norrbotten (P4) on 102.7 MHz in Kiruna.
Travel advisories and local rules
Sweden is in the Schengen area. In the north, weather and road conditions change quickly in winter.
Entry rules, permits and security conditions differ by country and change. Read your own government's current travel advice before you plan a trip around a launch.
Safety
Stay out of Zone A and any extended Zone A when sirens or notices are active. Short repeated siren signals mean leave the area; a continuous signal means the danger is over. Do not photograph the site or fly drones: both are prohibited by law. If you find rocket or balloon parts in the forest, do not touch them and call the number on SSC's page.
