Road closures, official information and advisories

T-ZERO does not collect or republish closure data. Use the official or local sources below, and check them again on launch day.

Closure authority moved from Cameron County to the City of Starbase on September 1, 2025 (Texas HB 5246), according to Starbase Events, an unofficial site. The county page still exists but its latest posted order was in October 2025 when we checked, so use the City of Starbase page. Orders are numbered mayoral orders and are often issued only a few days ahead.

Getting there

Highway 4 east of Brownsville is the only road to Boca Chica Beach; on closure days it is shut from FM 1419/Oklahoma Avenue to the beach entrance. South Padre Island is about five miles from the pad in a straight line but a much longer drive around the bay, so plan to be in place well before a closure begins. Text BEACH to 1-866-513-3475 to get beach access alerts from the city.

Safety

Respect every closure: the city has declared FAA hazard areas and a clear zone around the site. Do not try to approach the launch site by boat or by walking. South Padre Island beaches are busy on launch days; watch for heat and sun, rip currents, and fast-moving traffic on Padre Boulevard.

What to bring

Water, sunscreen, a hat, chairs or a shade structure, binoculars, a portable radio or phone with the webcast, and a way to pay for county park entry. Bring layers for dawn launches.
