Watching launches from Jiuquan, Inner Mongolia

China · Public viewing: Limited · No public viewing spots. Last verified 2026-10-02.

Jiuquan is China's oldest launch centre and the only one that launches crewed missions. It lies in the Gobi in Inner Mongolia, and its status is military-managed. We could not find any fixed public viewing place. If you are a mainland resident, you can sometimes join an organised viewing trip for a major launch; for other visitors, watching the broadcast is the realistic option.

Public viewing at Jiuquan, Inner Mongolia

Public viewing: Limited Viewing needs registration, a ticket, an organised tour, or is limited to a few specific spots.

Jiuquan has no open viewing area. Viewing is by pre-arranged, coach-based programmes through the local tourism authority and tour operators, with advance identity screening, and a recent operator notice accepted only mainland Chinese ID holders.

Official and primary sources for this label

If you cannot be there: Crewed Shenzhou launches are streamed by CCTV and Xinhua. The launch page lists the webcast when Launch Library 2 has the link.

Stay out of restricted zones. Launch sites, safety zones and military areas are closed on purpose; entering them, or photographing them where that is banned, can bring fines, detention or worse under local law. Only use viewing places that the site operator, the local authority or an accredited tour operator names, and follow staff and police instructions.

Travel advisories and local rules

Entry rules for China depend on your nationality and change; read your own government's travel advice. Organised viewing programmes described in Chinese sources are generally booked in Chinese with real-name registration.

Entry rules, permits and security conditions differ by country and change. Read your own government's current travel advice before you plan a trip around a launch.

Safety

Do not try to approach the base, Dongfeng Town restricted areas or the landing areas on your own. Follow every instruction from the organiser. The Gobi is remote with extreme temperatures; vehicles in this area should be well equipped.
